An interesting encounter over in the Italian capital this week as Roma play host to Real Madrid. A win for either side would see them through to the next round with a game to spare. Should there be a loser in this game, then that side would be vulnerable against CSKA should the Russian side beat Viktoria Plzen at home. The result that may best suit both sides though is the draw as - barring a remarkable turnaround in goal difference - a point apiece would be enough to see both sides through to the knockout stages.

Real Madrid put in what was probably their best performance of the season to date when seeing off Roma 3-0 at the Bernabeu in the first clash between these sides in the competition.

Daniele De Rossi and Javier Pastore are out for the hosts. Real Madrid meanwhile must make do without Mariano, Kelor Navas, Nacho, Sergio Reguilón, Jesús Vallejo and Álvaro Odriozola.

Roma had been in decent heart with just one defeat in ten, but head here on the back of a disappointing result at the weekend when losing at lowly Udinese.

Roma's result at the weekend wasn't quite as disappointing as that of Rewal Madrid though, with the Spanish giants seeing their four game winning streak brought to a juddering halt when slumping 3-0 at Eibar.

Not the easiest game to call, but a draw suits both sides here, and that's the way we see it going.

Prediction: Roma 1 - 1 Real Madrid

Nicolo Zaniolo was booked for the home side in this one with referee Clement Turpin also taking the names of Luka Modric and Raphael Varane of Real.

A little edge was taken out of this fixture with CSKA Moscow's earlier defeat having already ensured that both Roma and Real Madrid would qualify for the knockout stages.

Not much to split the sides overall in what was an evenly contested game. Real Madrid simply making more of their chances on the night.

Both sides were having their moments in the opening period, but it was Roma who really ought to have taken a lead into the break. Cengiz Under producing one of the misses of the season to date when blazing over an open goal from a couple of yards. 0-0 at half-time.

It was Real who struck first in the 47th minute. A terrible clearance from Robin Olsen causing chaos, with a Roma defender eventually playing the ball inadvertently to Gareth Bale lurking in the area. Bale composing himself before finishing into the bottom left.

Madrid's second came in the 59th minute. Bale to Karim Benzema at the far post, Benzema heading back across the keeper and Lucas Vazquez tapping in from close range.

Roma did push in an effort to get back into this. It was Madrid who had the better of the few remaining chances in the game though as the held on comfortably enough in the end.

It is Real who look certain to top this Group now then, as despite their domestic woes, they continue to get the job done in the Champions League. Roma will join them in the knockout stages what ever happens on Match Day 6.
