Schalke vs Stuttgart

Schalke will be looking to move up the table after a split start to the season. A 2-0 win over RB Leipzig was quickly followed by a surprise defeat to promoted Hannover. They will look to midfielder Leon Goretzka for inspiration. Striker Guido Burgstaller is also available for his first appearance of the season. For the away side, the buzz is still surrounding Holger Badstuber, who scored his first goal in over 2000 days. The goal from the towering defender was enough to lead the club to a 1-0 home win over Mainz before the international break. The past head-to-head records are a tad strange, with Schalke enjoying 29 home wins against Stuttgart than any other team. Stuttgart also have won the most Bundesliga matches of any team against Schalke!

Match Stats:

  • Schalke 3-1 Stuttgart
  • Shots: 12-9
  • Possession: 40%-60%
  • Corner kicks: 2-1

Nabil Bentaleb gave the Royal Blues the lead from the penalty spot inside three minutes following Orel Mangala's challenge on Thilo Kehrer. Stuttgart responded well, however, and went close to equalising through Benjamin Pavard and Simon Terodde, before Chadrac Akolo eventually restored parity four minutes before the interval.

The hosts flew out of the traps after half-time, scoring twice in as many minutes to put the game beyond the Swabians' reach. Naldo headed home Bastian Oczipka's pin-point delivery to make it 2-1 before Guido Burgstaller's first goal of the season extended Die Knappen's advantage. Terodde went close to pulling one back for Hannes Wolf's charges, but Schalke held on to seal the points.
