Switzerland vs Hungary

Switzerland are looking to maintain a perfect record of eight wins from eight, and they are in prime form heading into this home encounter against Hungary, and the winners-take-all clash away in Portugal on Tuesday. The Swiss Army have also kept five clean sheets in a row and have yet to pick up the ball from their own net at home. The reverse fixture ended in a 3-2 win for Switzerland last October, Valentin Stocker scoring the winning goal with a minute to go.
Switzerland won't have cousins Edimilson Fernandes and Gelson Fernandes available due to injury. But the encouraging news is that talented striker Breel Embolo is back after an 11-month injury layoff.

Match Stats:

  • Switzerland 5-2 Hungary
  • Shots: 19-8
  • Possession: 65%-35%
  • Corner kicks: 6-3

Switzerland made the most of a nightmare evening for Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi as they turned on the style in a 5-2 win that maintained their perfect World Cup qualifying record on Saturday.

The Swiss, with 27 points from nine games in European Group B, will now travel to Lisbon needing a draw away to Portugal to clinch top spot and a direct place in Russia.

However, they will be overhauled if they lose to the European champions who have won eight straight matches since their 2-0 defeat in Basel at the start of the campaign in September last year.
