Man City vs Burnley

Another weekend, another matchday, another guess at how many goals Man City are going to rack up. The Citizens are the first top-flight team to net 29 goals in their first eight league games of the season since Everton hit 30 in the 1894/95 season!

A win will see City equal their club record of 11 consecutive wins in all competitions. But will it be that straightforward? Burnley are no slouches having won at Chelsea and Everton. They also eked out draws at Liverpool and Tottenham.
Not sure just why the Clarets' away form has been that fantastic this season as their current tally of eight away points is already more than their entire total last term.

Burnley are at full strength, while City will sweat over Sergio Aguero, who is still pretty much 50-50 after that car crash, which injured his ribs.

City won both fixtures last season by the scoreline of 2-1.

Match Stats:

  • Man City 3-0 Burnley
  • Shots: 15-6
  • Possession: 78%-22%
  • Corner kicks: 4-5

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the table to five points, capitalising on Manchester United's defeat at Huddersfield Town, with a 3-0 victory over Burnley.

Sergio Aguero struck first on 29 minutes and became Man City's all-time joint-highest goalscorer with a penalty after Bernardo Silva had been fouled by Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Despite losing striker Chris Wood to injury Burnley had a chance to equalise but Scott Arfield's shot was blocked after an Ederson error.

But City struck twice within two second-half minutes to remain the Premier League's only unbeaten team.

Nicolas Otamendi headed in a corner from Leroy Sane, who was then set up by Kevin De Bruyne to score.
