Leganes vs Villarreal

An early kickoff on Sunday, where Leganes will hope to bank on their quite impressive home record. They have won two, drawn two and lost two at home. The defence is key with just five goals conceded in six matches. Three of that lot came courtesy of Barcelona. It's the attack that hasn't quite got going with just three goals scored.

Leganes are 11th in the table on 17 points, while Villarreal are four points ahead in sixth spot.

Another defeat here could see the Yellow Submarine drop out of the top-six zone. They lost to Sevilla last weekend.

Good thing is that Villarreal can rely on the breakout star Cedri Bakambu. The Congolese has bagged nine La Liga goals and sit second on the scoring charts.

Both Bakambu and Carlos Bacca were on target in midweek as Villarreal easily beat lower-division Ponferradina 3-0 in the Spanish Cup.

Leganes were successful too in cup action, edging Real Valladolid 1-0 at home.

It ended 0-0 in this fixture last season, but Villarreal won 2-1 in the return fixture, all thanks to a Bakambu brace.

Prediction: Leganes 1-2 Villarreal

Match Stats:

  • Leganes 3-1 Villarreal
  • Shots: 10-12
  • Possession: 42%-58%

Leganes scored three goals in the final 20 minutes to defeat Villarreal 3-1 and halt a four-game losing streak.

The southern Madrid club moved from 11th to seventh in the standings, only one point behind sixth-place Villarreal.

The last league win for Leganes had been against Athletic Bilbao in October, although it recently had two Copa del Rey victories against second-division club Valladolid in the Round of 32.

Daniel "Raba" Rabaseda put Villarreal ahead in the 60th at Butarque Stadium, but the hosts recovered with goals by Diego Rico in the 72nd, Nabil El Zhar in the 81st and Gabriel Pires in injury time.

Leganes had scored only once in its last four league games.
