Liverpool vs Leicester
30 Dec, Saturday, 11:00pm

Liverpool's world record signing of Virgil van Dijk for a defender has dominated the headlines in the lead-up to this match. The £75million Dutchman will join when the transfer window formally opens Jan 1.

That's the defence taken care of, but what about the attack? Jurgen Klopp has not viewed Sadio Mane as an automatic starter in the past two months, and that is just frustration for the Senegalese speed demon, who was the toast of Anfield not too long ago.

Mane could make a return to the starting XI though. He was well-rested as he watched Liverpool stroll to a routine 5-0 spanking of Swansea on Boxing Day.

Roberto Firmino got a brace in that win, which was the fourth time this season that Liverpool have scored five goals or more in a match. No other Premier League team, not even the rampant Man City side, has hit the five-goal mark more often than the Reds this season.

Leicester were beaten 2-1 at Watford on Boxing Day, their second reverse in three EPL matches. That matches the same total they had lost in the previous 13 matches.

So, the Foxes could be in for some tough time as they attempt to rebuild a charge towards a top-6 finish.

Riyad Mahrez's recent form will give them hope though. The Algerian wizard has notched up six goals and assists in Leicester's last seven games.

Both teams have met up twice this season. The first league meeting at King Power Stadium ended 3-2 to the Reds. It should have been a 3-3 draw had Jamie Vardy not missed from the spot. Leicester won the other, a 2-0 win in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Big Team News:

Jordan Henderson and Alberto Moreno will both miss at least the next two matches with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively. Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined with a back injury, while Daniel Sturridge is set to return from illness.

Full back Danny Simpson will be unavailable "for a few weeks" after picking up a muscular strain. Daniel Amartey is available again after serving a one-match ban. But towering defender Robert Huth remains sidelined and is targeting a January return.

Big Stats:
Big Stat 1: Liverpool have kept three clean sheets in their last four outings.
Big Stat 2: Roberto Firmino has scored in his third consecutive Premier League match for the first time.
Big Stat 3: Leicester have notched eight goals in their last three Premier League matches away from home.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Leicester

Mohamed Salah scored two second-half goals, taking his tally to 17 for the season, as Liverpool came from behind to beat Leicester City 2-1 at Anfield.

Claude Puel's team took the lead in the third minute, with Jamie Vardy netting for the seventh time in five matches against the Reds.

But Liverpool responded strongly, Salah going close three times and Sadio Mane having a goal disallowed before the break.

Salah's equaliser arrived in the 52nd minute and, after Mane had had another strike ruled out, the Egyptian notched a 76th-minute winner.

It moved him one goal behind Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane at the top of the goalscoring chart.
