This is a matchup with teams at the opposite ends of the table in Ligue 1. Olympique de Marseille are currently in third place with 48 points, while Metz are struggling in last place with 18 points.

Marseille is in fantastic form, winning 5 in a row before drawing in their last game. They are actually tied on points with second-placed Lyon, but sit third because of goal differential. The goal for Marseille is to finish second in order to qualify directly to the Champions League. Marseille Spear headed by Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin, and Lucas Ocampos, this task should not be too problematic to achieve. L'OM have successfully built a strong squad, anything short of finishing second place will be considered a disappointment. Lyon has a high probability of dropping points in a tough match away against Monaco this week, Marseille must secure all three points and take advantage of this opportunity.

Metz are going through a very difficult time and had a terrible run at the beginning of the season. Even after winning four of their last six matches, they still sit dead last and it is quite likely that they will be playing in Ligue 2 next season as they are still seven points away from safety with 15 matches left to play. To make matters worse, their defense has been decimated by injuries. Defenders Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Mathieu Udol, Theodore Efouba, and Nicolas Basin will all miss the match along with midfielder Yann Jouffre due to different ailments.

Marseille have too much firepower for Metz to deal with right now, this should not be a complicated game for l'OM.

The final goal of the match came in the 91st minute, through an Ibrahima Niane header from a cross by Ivan Balliu.

Marseille got the job done and are now in second place, anxiously waiting for the result between Monaco and Lyon in two days. A Lyon loss will leave l'OM in sole possession of second place, so they might be cheering for the Monegasque club to win. Metz remain in last place, their hopes of staying in Ligue 1 for next year are looking bleak.
