David versus Goliath. First versus last. Napoli versus Benevento. Leaders Napoli travel to Benevento for the first time in Serie A. After defeating Benevento 6-0 at the San Paolo in September, Napoli have no reason to doubt that they will return to Naples with anything but three points and another handful of goals. They should be cautious though, as Benevento has already slain a giant this year, defeating AC Milan courtesy of a last minute header by their goalkeeper.

Maurizio Sarri's squad are having a solid season as they sit first with 57 points. Napoli have proven to be a resilient side, after conceding in the first minute of last week's match versus Bologna, they stormed back to win 3-1. Gli Azzurri are in fantastic form right now, having won all five of their last away games.

Massimo Coda is the man to watch for the home side. He delivered wins for Benevento in the last match of 2017 and the first match of 2018; however, he has failed to convert in the last two games as Benevento has lost both by 3-0 scorelines.

Don't forget though, Napoli have Dries Mertens on their side. The Belgian scored two goals last weekend and looks hungry for more goals. Also, his only hat trick of the season came versus Benevento. It wouldn't be farfetched to say that he'll return to Naples with more goals to his name.

Prediction: Benevento 1-2 Napoli

Dries Mertens and Marek Hamsik solved a surprisingly complicated game for Napoli; each got a goal a piece to lead Napoli to a 2-0 victory. It was a back and forth affair, as both teams had equal amounts of opportunities to score. In the end, it was Napoli who came out with all three points.

Lorenzo Insigne gave the home side a scare when he hit the crossbar from distance in the 14th minute. Two minutes later, Marek Hamsik had a wonderful chance to score but his left footed shot missed the target.

Dries Mertens settled his team's nerves and cooly lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Christian Puggioni to put his side ahead 1-0.

In the 39th minute, Sandro had a chance to score the home side's equalizer but his shot sailed high and to the right.

A minute later, Benevento had its best opportunity so far at the feet of Filip Djuricic. The Serb failed to convert, however, as his shot went left of the goal. Benevento would pay for their misses.

Right at the start of the second half, Jose Callejon freed Marek Hamsik with a pass. All Hamsik had to do was tap the ball in with his left foot.

With this win, Napoli remain in first place, holding their one point lead on Juventus.
