Average goals per match: 1.4
Average goals against per match: 1.3
Top Scorer: Alfred Finnbogason (11)

Leipzig returned to winning ways last weekend after defeating Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 away. This will surely be a confidence booster for the Red Bull side. They are not having the fairy tale season they had last year, but they still are a formidable squad at home, winning six of ten while only losing once.

Augsburg also snapped out of a recent funk, after a 3-0 win versus Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. They have been playing good football, but the results have not gone their way as they won only once in their previous six matches.

Unfortunately for Augsburg, their goal scoring talisman, Alfred Finnbogason is ruled out for this match. Only Robert Lewandowski ( 18 ) has more goals than Finnbogason (11).

Leipzig aren't exactly lighting the world on fire with their play, their recent results will attest to that. Even though they beat Gladbach, they only managed to score once; and before that they struggled against poor sides such as Freiburg and Hamburg.

Augsburg's great results this season have come at home. Away from the Augsburg Arena they are an average team. On the other hand, the Red Bull Arena seems to be a fortress for Leipzig. Both teams will battle it out, but Leipzig will emerge victorious from a very close match.

Prediction: Leipzig 1-0 Augsburg

Leipzig hold second place on their own after defeating Augsburg 2-0. The Red Bull team are now 3 points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen with an extra game played.

Augsburg stuck it to Leipzig for the first ten minutes; most of the play was in the Leipzig half and Augsburg enjoyed most of the possession. After that, the game began to open up and Leipzig pressed Augsburg more.

A 17th minute corner led to Leipzig's goal. Kevin Kampl sent the cross in to Timo Werner, whose shot was parried by goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. The rebound was met by Yussuf Poulsen but was once again saved and parried by Hitz. It would be third time lucky for Leipzig as Dayot Upamecano would be the first to the ball and punch it into the net. 1-0 Leipzig.

Both teams pressed each other and played an intense game. In the 35th minute Rani Khedira played the ball behind the Leipzig defense but his teammate failed to get on end of it.

Khedira would once again split the defense with a beautiful pass. Michael Gregoritsch received the pass and tried his luck. The shot took a dangerous deflection but was cleared to the corner by Willi Orban.

Caiuby would cut down Timo Werner near the box in the 69th minute. Naby Keita stepped up to take the free kick and curled it into the back of the net. Wonderful finish by Keita.

Werner wanted to join the goal scoring party, but his shot in the 75th minute missed the target badly.

Sergio Cordova would enter the game in the 76th minute to try to shake things up for Augsburg. He would get a chance in the 83rd minute but failed to hit a target. Later in the 90th it would be the Venezuelan who again created danger. This time squaring a ball in the box to Ja-Cheol Koo, but the shot was blocked.

Augsburg tried but was unable to find a goal. 2-0 would be the final score. Good win by Leipzig who are temporarily in sole possession of second place.
