Real Madrid saw their five game winning streak come to a halt on Wednesday when they were defeated 1-0 by Espanyol at the Cornella el Prat. Madrid are in a sort of 'no man's land'; they are 15 points behind leaders Barcelona, so a title challenge isn't realistic, and nine points above fifth placed Sevilla, which also makes it unlikely that they will drop out of the top four. Los Blancos are still alive in the Champions League though, and won't want to travel to Paris on the heels of two straight defeats in league play.

Zinedine Zidane has rotated a lot of his key players in recent matches. He also has injury concerns regarding Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Marcelo. Considering that Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema did not start against Espanyol, it's not hard to assume that they will get the call to be in the starting 11 for this match.

Getafe are a strong unit at the back, their defensive record is only bested by Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. They currently sit tenth, which is more than acceptable for them. However, most of their good results have come at home, where they have eight wins and three draws in 14 games. Away from El Coliseum Alfonso Perez, they have only managed one win, with six draws--one of which was a 0-0 result at the Camp Nou--and five losses.

Even with their strong back line and their impressive performance at the Camp Nou, the Santiago Bernabeu will prove to be too much for Getafe. The crowd will rally behind Real Madrid on Sunday and boost their morale to help them get a victory before their important Champions League clash in midweek.

Real Madrid boosted their confidence before their Champions League clash in midweek by defeating Getafe 3-1. Los Blancos travel to Paris to take on Paris Saint Germain in the Round of 16 return leg with a 3-1 aggregate advantage.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring in the 24th minute. A cross by Karim Benzema was headed down by Isco. The ball reached Bale near the penalty spot, and the Welshman fired home with a left footed shot.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the fastest player to reach 300 La Liga goals with a superb finish at the stroke of halftime. The Portuguese superstar made waste of two defenders in the box by cutting inside and putting the ball on his left foot. His shot to the back post was too much for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to handle.

Down 2-0, Loic Remy made things harder for his team as he earned himself a second yellow card for elbowing Nacho and received his marching orders.

Getafe got a glimmer of hope when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 65th minute. The referee deemed that Nacho brought down Jorge Molina from behind in the box. Francisco Portillo slyly finished to the middle of the goal as Keylor Navas dove to his right.

Any comeback dreams were shattered when Ronaldo got his brace in the 78th minute. Marcelo, who came on as a substitute after missing the last three matches due to an injury, sent a cross in the box that Ronaldo headed into the back of the net.

Ronaldo now has 10 goals in his last five matches overall, PSG should be worried about that. Real Madrid are too far away from leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to mount a serious challenge for the title, but they solidified their grasp on third place with this win.
