Mid table Athletic Bilbao welcome Deportivo La Coruna to the San Mamés this weekend in a game that is a lot more significant for the visitors than the home side.

Athletic Bilbao are hit by suspensions here with both Ander Iturraspe and Unai Núñez unavailable.

Deportivo will be without the suspended Guilherme and injured Fede Cartabia, leaving a couple of holes in midfield which will need to be filled.

Athletic Bilbao currently reside in mid table security with not much scope to move too far up or too far down. They are a proud side though, particularly at home and certainly wont roll over for their increasingly desperate visitors. They have only won three of their past ten at home in the league but have drawn the other seven and are a tough nut to crack here.

Deportivo finally won a game last week with their 3-2 home verdict over Malaga snapping a 15 match winless streak. They remain eight points adrift of safety though and surely need a miracle. A win here would help of course but their away form this season suggests that may be unlikely. Deportivo haven't won an away La Liga game since October, losing nine of their last ten and failing to even score in their last five.

Athletic Bilbao should see these off without too much trouble.

Three booked by referee Jose Luis Gonzalez here, with Raul Garcia and Yeray Alvarez seeing yellow for Bilbao and Ruben Martinez doing likewise for Deportivo.

Deportivo took the lead in just the sixth minute. A Lucas Perez corner from the left finding the head of Fabian Schaer who directed towards goal for Adrian Lopez to supply the finishing touch.

After 14 minutes Bilbao were two down. Emre Colak clipping a ball towards the far post, Celso Borges nodding back across goal into the path of Lopez who grabbed his second from close range. That's the way it stayed until half time.

Bilbao were back in this almost immediately in the second half. Benat Extabarria's corner from the right being headed low and in by Raul Garcia.

Just six minutes later though Deportivo's two goal cushion was restored. Lucas Perez playing in an excellent low cross along the six yard box, Borja Valle doing well to get across his marker and direct the ball towards the far bottom corner.

You don't see many goals direct from a corner, but Bilbao got one in the 72nd minute. Markel Susaeta's in-swinger from the left evading everyone and going straight in. 2-3. And that's the way it stayed.

Athletic Bilbao's up and down season continued here, coming unstuck at home against lowly opposition having ran out comfortable winners away at Villareal only last week. They lie in 13th but a comfortable 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

That's back to back wins for Deportivo now. That's the first time they have won two in succession in La Liga all season. Perhaps the great escape really is on. With five points still to make up on Levante though, they need to keep on winning with games running out.
