World Cup hosts Russia travel to Austria as their big moment in front of their own fans draws ever nearer.

Austria may have missed out on qualification for the summer showpiece, but they could hardly arrive at this fixture in better form having now won their last five on the spin, including impressive wins over World Cup bound Serbia and Uruguay. Franc Foda has only been in charge since January, but has started well with a 3-0 win over Slovenia and 4-0 verdict over Luxembourg in his two games to date.

One of the pitfalls of qualifying as hosts - whilst it is of course always nice to qualify automatically - is that Russia have now gone quite some time without a competitive International fixture. They don't have long to warm to the task now though with the opening game of the tournament now only around two weeks away.

Draws with Iran and impressively with Spain suggested that Russia were on the right track headed into the summers tournament, but recent humbling's at the hands of Brazil and France show that there is a lot of work still to be done if they are to give their fans a tournament to remember.

Austria are 40 places ahead of Russia in the FIFA rankings, in excellent form and will have the advantage of playing on home soil. All of which should be enough to see them come out in front here.

Prediction: Austria 2 - 1 Russia
