Probably the pick of the weekends fixtures on Match Day 1 in Serie A comes at the Stadio Olimpico as last season's fifth placed finishers, Lazio, welcome runners up Napoli to the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio were undoubtedly one of the most entertaining sides to watch in Serie A last season, scoring more goals than even champions Juventus.

This is not quite Napoli as we have known them. The club will be aiming to forge a new identity under Carlo Ancelotti who will likely adopt a more pragmatic approach than predecessor Maurizio Sarri. It will also be interesting to see how the cope with midfield metronome Jorginho.

Lazio do have significant work to do if they are to turn around the recent head to head record between the sides, having been thumped 4-1 both home and away by Napoli last season.

Lazio will also pay the price for their disciplinary issues towards the end of last season. Senad Lulic, Patric and Lucas Leiva are all suspended for this fixture. Jordan Lukaku looks like missing out through injury.

Faouzi Ghoulam, Alex Meret and Amin Younes miss out for Napoli.

It's hard to know what to expect from Napoli this season. However despite losing their coach and key midfielder, they were miles clear of all bar Juventus last season and can do enough to come out on top against a depleted Lazio side.

Prediction: Lazio 1 - 2 Napoli

Half time: 1 - 1
Full time: 1 - 2
Shots:  12 - 9
Shots on target: 5 - 4
Corner Kicks: 4 - 7
Possession: 42% - 58%

No bookings for either side at the Stadio Olimpico as referee Luca Banti kept his cards in his pocket throughout.

An even encounter overall which in truth could have gone either way. Napoli playing some excellent possession football at times but Lazio shading it on chances created.

It was Lazio who struck first in the 25th minute, with the prolific Ciro Immobile continuing where he left off last season. The hitman turning brilliantly on the edge of the area to wrongfoot three defenders before finishing into the top left corner. Fine strike.

Napoli were looking more and more threatening as the half wore on though, striking the bar before finding the net in the 41st minute. There were claims of a foul following a corner from the right in the build up though and upon review the effort was chalked off.

The visitors were to make it into half time on level terms though. A lofted ball to the far post being played back across goal by Jose Maria Callejon for Arkadiusz Milik to finish from close range.

Defences were largely on top in the second half in what was a scrappy affair at times. Immobile really should have restored the home sides advantage though. Finding himself unmarked at the far post following a corner he could only plant his side foot volley wide of the goal. An uncharacteristic miss from the frontman. And one which would prove costly.

For in the 59th minute when a cross from the right was laid off into the path of Lorenzo Insigne arriving in the back corner of the 18-yard box, the wide man did the rest with a fantastic finish into the far top corner.

Try as they might, there was no way back for Lazio as Napoli begin there season with an excellent three points.
