Lyon did the double over Nice last season, coming out on top 3-2 in this fixture and winning 5-0 in the away game.

Lyon have been perfect at home so far this season, winning each of their two games and keeping two clean sheets in the process. A 1-0 loss away to Reims shows that they can be vulnerable though.

Nice head here winless in three having conceded six goals and scored just the once. Last weekends 4-0 humbling at home to Dijon highlighted everything that is wrong with this Nice side at present.

Nice have won just once in their past six visits to the Groupama Stadium, although they have also secured to draws in this period.

Amine Gouiri definitely misses out for Lyon. Nice will be without Danilo and Youcef Attal. There's good news up front though as Mario Balotelli returns to the line-up following his suspension.

Lyon haven't yet quite hit the heights of their excellent form from the backend of last season. There have however been definite signs that they aren't a million miles away from that high level of performance. There solid defensive record is particularly encouraging, as they do look a side who are always likely to score.

Nice have been abject so far and the return of Mario Balotelli is going to need to have the most dramatic of effects for them to get anything here. We don't see it happening and expect a home win in this one.

Mario Balotelli celebrated his return to the Nice line-up with a yellow card. The visitors Adrien Tameze was the only other player to have his name taken by referee Francois Letexier.

If there's one thing about this game of football, it certainly isn't predictable, although quite how Nice escaped from this game with all three points is something of a mystery. In terms of smash and grab performances this may well be the best effort of the season date.

Lyon can take a little heart from the extent to which the dominated this game, racking up a whopping 29 efforts on goal, 13 of which were on target, including an effort against the woodwork. They really did everything but score on a most frustrating evening for the home supporters.

Nice for their part played three at the back and five in midfield as they attempted to smother Lyon, and despite coming under immense pressure, their strategy ultimately worked.

For all their dominance in the first half, the majority of Lyons chances were coming through shots from range. Nabil Fekir being particularly wasteful from a number of positions where he generally does better. Nice were happy to occasionally attack on the counter with Balotelli looking lively.

One of those breaks very nearly paid off for Nice at the start of the second half. Allan Saint-Maximin out-speeding the Lyon defence, clipping the ball over the keeper, only to be denied by the crossbar.

What proved to be the decisive moment of the match came in the 49th minute. Saint-Maximin cutting in just outside the 18 yard box on the left and smashing an shot towards goal. His effort was on target but a hefty deflection on the way through left keeper Anthony Lopes with no chance. 0-1.

And as much as they tried the equaliser just wouldn't come for Lyon.
