Last season's Bundesliga runners up Schalke have enjoyed a rocky start to the current campaign and are pointless after the opening two games. They will be hoping to belatedly kick their season into gear this weekend but it certainly wont be easy as they travel to the Stadion im Borussia-Park to take on Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Borussia have begun their season in solid enough style, beating Bayer Leverkusen at home and picking up a draw on the road in Augsburg.

Schalke lost on the opening day but would have been confident of bouncing back at home to Hertha Berlin last time out only to go down by two goals to nil.

The past four games between the sides have all ended in a draw, including the two league clashes last season which both finished 1-1.

Mamadoud Doucouré and Lars Stindl miss out for the home side. Schalke must go without the injured duo of Benjamin Stambouli and Bastian Oczipka in addition to the suspended Yevhen Konoplyanka.

Schalke were excellent at home last season which was the main catalyst towards their second placed finish. They were fairly effective on the road too though, winning eight of 17 and losing five.

Borussia were solid if unspectacular in front of their own fans, winning nine of 17.

It's hard to believe that Schalke will remain in the doldrums for too long and we can see them picking up something here, even if it is only a point.

Prediction: Borussia Moenchengladbach 2 - 2 Schalke

Half time: 1 - 0
Full time: 2 - 0
Shots:  9 - 12
Shots on target: 4 - 7
Corner Kicks: 6 - 6
Possession: 54% - 46%

Four bookings in this one, all for the away side. Referee Manuel Grafe taking the names of Hamza Mendyl, Alessandro Schopf, Matija Nastasic and Breel Embolo.

Schalke actually led the shot count here put were unable to turn that advantage into goals as their miserable start to the season continued with another defeat.

The home side made a dream start to the game; finding themselves in front in just the third minute. Jonas Hofmann's corner from the right-hand side being met by Matthias Ginter to direct an excellent header back across goal and into the right-hand side.

The home side had keeper Yann Sommer to thank for maintaining their lead until half time. Salif Sane seeming certain to score when powering a header at goal following a corner from the left only for the keeper to acrobatically tip the ball over. 1-0 at the break.

It did look as though the home side would need a second goal in order to put this game to bed. They got it in the 76th minute. Schalke failing to deal with a cross from the left-hand side and the ball making its way to Patrick Hermann around 14 yards from goal. Excellent volleyed finish into the bottom left corner from Hermann.

Long way back for last years Bundesliga runners up now, but they did continue to push. Mark Uth forcing Sommer into another fine save in the 88th minute.

The visitors did belatedly grab a goal deep into stoppage time. It was a stunner too. Uth playing the ball to Breel Embolo just outside the eighteen-yard box and Embolo firing an absolute rocket into the top right corner. All too little all too late though. 2-1 final score.
