Roque Mesa. Jesus Navas and Ever Banega were booked for the home side in this one, with referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengpetxea also taking the names of Leandro Cabrera, Djene Dakonam, Vitorino Antunes, Amath Ndiaye, Bruno and Dimitri Foulquier of the away side. Busy afternoon for the ref.
The home side were in front on every measure except the one that counts here, as their recent troubles in front of goal came back to haunt them.
The away side shot out of the blocks and took the lead after only three minutes. Jorge Molina with the incisive through ball to strike partner Angel Rodriguez in the left side of the area. Smart finish from the number nine, across the keeper and into the bottom right corner.
This was an entertaining game, with both teams looking to go on the front foot, and whilst Sevilla were bossing the ball, they were struggling to create much in the way of clear cut chances.
Then in the 38th minute they found themselves two behind. Sergi Gomez intercepting a ball into the area but only succeeding in playing the ball perfectly into the path of Rodriguez around seven yards from goal. The front man once again slotting home with aplomb.
Nolito had a golden opportunity to pull one back before the break, but in acres of space inside the area with only the keeper to beat, he could only fire wide.
Sevilla did have the ball in the net in the second half. Wissam Ben Yedder played through and dinking the ball over the keeper, only for the referee to rule it out for offside.
Getafe hung on for the win.
An excellent result for Getafe who move up to fifth. Sevilla slip to eleventh.
