It's been an up and down season for Augsburg so far, but whilst they have just the one win to their name to date, they have at least been in all of their games, with each of their five matches either finishing in a draw or being decided by just the one goal either way. The arrive at this fixture on the back of their standout result of the campaign when drawing 1-1 with Bayern in Munich.

Freiburg took a while to warm up; losing their first two games before picking up a draw at home to Stuttgart. They seem to be warming to the task nicely now though and have beaten Wolfsburg and Schalke in their two most recent games.

Both sides are faced with overflowing treatment rooms at present. Augsburg have six confirmed absentees and one significant doubt. Freiburg aren't much better off with five definitely out and a concern about another.

This game was certainly an entertaining one of the neutral last season, finishing as it did in a 3-3 draw. Freiburg cam out on top 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

Two sides who will likely be heading into this game high on confidence should lead to an entertaining encounter. This looks like it could go either way and in all honesty we can't split the sides. With both teams likely to be on the front foot, we will take a score draw in this one.

Just the one booking in this one with referee Robert Kampka taking the name of Freiburg's Nicolas Hofler.

A good performance from Augsburg here as they really took the game to their opponents from the off and never once looked like letting it slip. Frieburg showed decent attacking intent at times but had to rely on an own goal for their only strike and were taken apart at the back.

The opener came in the 19th minute. Nice interplay down the right ending with Marco Richter curling a lovely cross into the area to be met with a thumping header into the left-hand side of the goal from Caiuby.

The second arrived in the 34th minute. Lovely goal too. More slick passing down the right-hand side and a low cross to the edge of the six yard box from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw being finished of by Alfred Finnbogason with a clever flick into the bottom left.

Four minutes into the second half Freiburg were unexpectedly back in the game via just about the ultimate in messy goals. Keeper Andreas Luthe twice saving Freiburg strikes but his defensive colleagues simply unable to clear the ball. Eventually kicking the ball against one another and deflecting it in for an own goal by Jonathan Schmid.

In the 68th minute the referee awarded the home side a penalty kick with Dominique Heintz deemed to have tripped Finnbogason in the area. This looked a bit soft but Finnbogason duly stepped up himself to slot into the bottom left.

Seven minutes from time Finnbogason grabbed his hat-trick. Breaking into the right-hand side of the area Andre Hahn drove the ball into the six yard area allowing the front man to prod home from close range.

4-1 final score.

Augsburg move up to eighth. Freiburg drop to 13th.
