One of the biggest mismatches in the Premier League this weekend - at least on paper - takes place at Wembley Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur play host to Premier League new boys Cardiff City.

Tottenham have begun this season in fairly solid style, winning five and losing two of their seven games to date. Suffering a mini blip when losing to Watford and Liverpool, they have since rebounded with wins against both Brighton and Huddersfield.

Cardiff are really struggling to adjust to the pace in the Premier League, with only goalless draws against Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town. Having shipped three against Arsenal, four against Chelsea and five against Arsenal, how will they fair against another of the Premier league big guns here.

The injuries are really mounting up for Tottenham now, with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembélé, Vincent Jansen and Serge Aurier all set to miss out here. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Aron Gunnarsson and Lee Peltier are the absentees for Cardiff.

One thing - possibly the only thing - in Cardiff's favour here is that they may be the fresher side having had the week off whilst Tottenham took in that big Champions League clash with Barcelona. That seems unlikely to be enough though, and although the raft of injuries may also bring the sides closer, we still see Mauricio Pochettino's men having enough to come out on top.

Davinson Sanchez, Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld were all booked for Spurs in this one. Mike Dean also booked Harry Arter and issued a straight red to Joe Ralls of the visitors.

Not vintage stuff from Tottenham but nevertheless a good workmanlike win as they once again bounce straight back following a disappointing result in the Champions' League in midweek. It can't be argued that they didn't deserve this having dominated for long spells, they simply weren't anywhere near their fluent peak.

Credit to Cardiff who did at least make it difficult for the home side. In the end though a lack of goal threat in combination with being reduced to ten men was always likely to be too much for them to overcome.

The only goal of the game came early with the home side taking the lead in the eighth minute. A cross into the box from the left-hand side being met by Davinson Sanchez. His header hit a Cardiff defender though and the ball really could have gone anywhere. Fortunately for Spurs it fell straight to the feet of Eric Dier around six yards from goal. Dier wasn't about to miss from there and didn't, beating Neil Etheridge to the bottom left corner.

Cardiff did have their moments in the first half and were only an excellent Toby Alderweireld goal line clearance away from making into the break on level terms.

Any chance Cardiff had was ended in the 58th minute with the sending off of Ralls for a challenge on Moura. This did look a little harsh, but you just can't go in two footed these days.

Another three points on the board for Tottenham who rise to third ahead of tomorrow's fixtures.

That's no wins in eight now for Cardiff who sit rock bottom of the table with just two points from their eight games.
