Match Day 8 continues in Serie this weekend with a number of cracking contests in store including here at the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio play host to Fiorentina.

This game finished in a 1-1 draw last season, with Lazio coming out on top 4-3 in the reverse game in Fiorentina.

Jordan Lukaku and Riza Durmisi miss out for the home side. Fiorentina have a fully fit squad from which to select.

Lazio had been ticking along nicely with five wins on the spin in all competitions. The wheels have come off a little in the past week though as they lost the big Rome derby 3-1 before slumping to a 4-1 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

Fiorentina have begun the season in excellent form, sitting third in the table after seven games. Their wins have all come at home though with their three away fixtures so far resulting in defeats at Napoli and Inter and a draw at Sampdoria.

Lazio have won two from three at home in the league with the only defeat coming against last seasons runners up Napoli.

Lazio would ordinarily be pretty strongly fancied to win this but shipping seven goals in their past two games does temper enthusiasm a little. Fiorentina are playing pretty well overall and are fancied to pick up a point on the road with a score draw seeming the most likely outcome in this one.

Senad Lulic, Felipe Caicedo, Adam Marusic, Joaquin Correa and Thomas Strakosha were all booked for Lazio, with referee Daniele Orsato also taking the names of Marko Pjaca, Gerson and Vitor Hugo of Fiorentina.

Just the one goal at the Stadio Olimpico but it certainly wasn't for the want of trying, with both sides keeping the shot count ticking over. In the end though it was one of the most clinical forwards in the Italian game who made the difference.

Lazio started on the front foot and fashioned a couple of half chances early. They very nearly shot themselves in the foot though when Wallace made a real hash of trying to play the ball back to his keeper. Luckily for the defender, keeper Thomas Strakosha made the save to spare his blushes.

The home side took the lead in the 37th minute. A corner from the right-hand side being flicked towards the back post by Stefan Radu. Ciro Immobile in full predatory mode to stab home on the volley onto the left-hand side from a pretty tight angle. 1-0 at the break.

Fiorentina did make a decent go of it in the second half, with Lazio seeming largely content to protect what they had and launch the occasional foray on the counter attack. Following their propensity to ship goals in recent games, this was a much better defensive display from the hosts and one which in the end ultimately reaped its rewards as the points stayed at the Stadio Olimpico.

A big win for Lazio who move up to fourth spot in the standings. Fiorentina drop down to seventh.
