It all started in the usual style this season for Bayern Munich as they rattled off four consecutive wins in their opening four league outings to establish themselves at the top of the table. It's all gone wrong recently though with just one point to show from their three most recent games. A 3-0 drubbing at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach last time out was a particularly shocking result, The defending champions have now dropped to seventh place in the standings and nothing less than three points will do here.

Wolfsburg are also struggling and head into this fixture without a win in five. Winning has been something of a problem for Wolfsburg for a while now though with the side having registered only four victories in their past 23 Bundesliga outings.

Bayern won this game 2-1 last season, but Wolfsburg did pick up a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at the Allanz.

Ismail Azzaoui, Jeffrey Bruma, Felix Klaus and Ignacio Camacho miss out for the home side. Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso remain on the side-lines for Bayern Munich.

There's no doubt that it is Bayern who boast the significantly stronger line-up on paper and they have been excellent at times this season. The international break may well have come at a good time for the champions and we fancy they will arrest their recent slide with a win in this one.

Maximilian Arnold and Wout Weghorst were booked for the home side. Bayern Munich had Thiago And Manuel Neuer shown yellow by referee Guido Winkmann who also dismissed Arjen Robben for two bookable offences.

The international break appears to have done Bayern Munich some good as they returned to winning ways with an impressive away performance. Getting on top in the first half they never let Wolfsburg off the hook, even when being reduced to ten men.

The opener came on the half hour mark. Mats Hummels playing in Robert Lewandowski in the left-hand side of the area. With time and space in the box the number nine despatched the ball home through the keepers legs.

Three minutes into the second half the Polish international doubled his sides advantage. Beating the keeper to a ball in from the left he toe-poked it around him before finishing into an empty net.

Robbens dismissal in the 57th minute handed the home side hope. Hope which grew stronger in the 63rd minute when Admir Mehmedi centred for Wout Weghorst to halve the deficit from close range.

In the 72nd minute though Bayern made sure of the points. Found in acres of space in the right of the area by Lewandowski, James Rodriguez smashed home with his left to beat Koen Casteels at his near post.

Bayern find themselves in the unusual position of being amongst the chasing pack at this early stage of the season. They do at least move up into fourth spot on the back od this win but are still four points behind early pacesetters Borussia Dortmund.

Wolfsburg drop down to tenth.
