We head to Genoa for the last of the fixtures on Match Day 9 in Serie A as Sampdoria play host to Sassuolo.

Sampdoria head into this game in pretty decent form with just one defeat in their last seven. Having come out on top against both SPAL and Atalanta in their two most recent games, they will be seeking a third successive win in this one.

Sassuolo began the season in pretty impressive style with just one defeat in their opening six games. Back to back defeats against Milan and Napoli mean they head here seeking to avoid a third defeat on the spin.

Sassuolo did the double over Sampdoria last season, winning 1-0 both at home and away.

Vasco Regini is the sole absentee for the home side. Sassuolo must do without the injured Federico Peluso and the suspended Rogerio.

Having scored in ten of their past eleven Serie A away outings Sassuolo will likely be confident of at least getting on the scoresheet in this one.
Sampdoria are generally a tough nut to crack at home having avoided defeat in 12 of their last 15 at the Luigi Ferraris.

Sampdoria have looked pretty good at times this season, but only sporadically. We fancy they will need to at least be close to their best of they are to come away with the points against what is a decent Sassuolo outift. They do look to be significantly the better side at the back though - only an average of 0.5 goals against per game on average - which may ensure they do come out on top.

Prediction: Sampdoria 2 - 0 Sassuolo

Half time: 0 - 0
Full time: 0 - 0
Shots:  10 - 5
Shots on target: 2 - 0
Corner Kicks: 4 - 3
Possession: 48% - 52%

Five bookings in this one with referee Francesco Fourneau taking the names of Joachim Andersen and Edgar Barreto of Sampdoria in addition to Marlon, Federico Di Francesco and Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo.

This one certainly won't go don't as a thriller with the sides managing just the two shots on target between them over the course of ninety minutes. Considering both of those efforts were recorded by the home side, if there was a team that deserved the points it was probably them, but overall this had the look of a bore draw a long time before the final whistle.

Both sides did have chances early though. Khouma Babacar played in on the right-hand side for Sasssuolo but firing his effort high and wide of the near post. Gaston Ramirez blowing Sampdoria's best opportunity when blazing over from around seven yards when he really ought to have scored.

Gregoire Defrel of Sampdoria then did his former side a favour. Having beaten the offside trap, he shanked his volley wide of the near post.

The closest either side came in the game though was when Domenico Bernardi did really well to cut in from the right for Sassuolo and send an effort towards the left of the goal only to see his shot come back off the inside of the post.

Not many chances in the second half. Substitute Riccardo Saponara having the best of them for the home side but only being able to fire his volley over the bar. 0-0 final score.

No change in the league table for either side on the back of this result. Sampdoria remaining fifth and Sassuolo staying in eighth spot.
