Atlético Madrid suffered their worst reverse in some time when on the wrong end of a 4-0 beating in the Champions League at Borussia Dortmund in midweek. That was certainly a surprising result for a side who are usually so resolute at the back and they will be looking to bounce back at the first time of asking here as they host Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Atlético won this game 2-1 last season but Real Sociedad certainly gained their revenge when seeing off Diego Simeone's men 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

No injuries for the home side but Juanfran misses out through suspension. Sociedad must do without Martín Merquelanz, Joseba Zaldua and Mikel Merino.

Atlético certainly haven't been quite at their best overall this season, in particular not looking quite so good at the back - at least not as consistently. They are however a very tough team to beat here in front of their own fans having lost just one of their last 25 at home in La Liga.

Real Sociedad may only be ninth in the overall standings, but they have been the best side in the league away from home so far this season with three wins and a draw from their five games to date.

As the stats show winning here can be a very tall order for the away side. Three points may be beyond Sociedad, but we do fancy them to claim a point against a rocking Atlético outfit.

Prediction: Atlético Madrid 1 - 1 Real Sociedad

Koke and Stefan Savic were booked for the home side with referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz also taking the name of Igor Zubeldia Elorza of Real Sociedad.

If Diego Simeone was looking for a reaction to that desperately disappointing heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions league in midweek, then he certainly got it. Utterly dominant throughout against a Sociedad side who have been playing pretty well of late, Atlético's defence were back to their best here with the visitors not managing a single effort on target over the course of ninety minutes.

The home side were having the best of it but did take a while to make the breakthrough with the opening goal coming on the stroke of half time. Excellent work from Angel Correa in the right of the area to spin and fire in a low cross. The ball was stabbed clear but only into the path of the lurking Diego Godin who finished well into the bottom right from around seven yards.

The second came on the hour mark. Filipe Luis cutting inside in the left corner of the eighteen-yard box and firing a fine right footed effort into the top right-hand corner. Lovely goal.

No way back from there for Sociedad, and in truth they never once looked like making a comeback. Atlético Madrid solid at the back and continuing to look dangerous on the counter attack. 2-0 final score.

Big win for Atlético Madrid who move to the top of the table ahead of Sunday's fixtures.  Real Sociedad drop down to twelfth but will face far easier assignments than this as the home side were really on their game tonight.
