Match Day 12
Saint-Étienne vs. Angers
Monday, November 5th 2018
00:00am (GMT+8 Timing)
Stadium: Stade Geoffrey-Guichard

Saint-Étienne:
Last five matches form: W W L D D
Average goals per match: 1.18
Average goals against per match: 1.27
Top Scorer: Wahbi Khazri (5)

Angers:
Last five matches form: W L D D L
Average goals per match: 1.18
Average goals against per match: 1.36
Top Scorer: Ismaël Traoré (3)

Saint-Étienne would likely have had a place in the European positions as their objective this season, and they may yet achieve it. If they are to do so though they really do need to find a bit of consistency. A good run of three consecutive wins saw Les Verts climb the table, but having followed that up with no wins in their past three they have now slipped back down to sixth spot.

For Angers, survival and a mid-table finish would no doubt be seen as an acceptable season. Lying in twelfth spot headed into match day 12 they are on course for that. They have been a little hit and miss of late but are unbeaten in their past three away from home in Ligue 1 and will likely provide their hosts with a decent test here.

This game finished up in a 1-1 draw last season, with Saint-Étienne winning the reverse fixture 1-0.

No confirmed injury absentees for either side in this one. The suspended Ismaël Traoré may be a big miss for the visitors though given that he is the sides top scorer so far this season.

The key factor here could be that absence of Traoré, with the front mans goals and physical presence likely to be a big miss for Angers. That and home advantage ought to just swing things in Saint-Etienne's favour.

Prediction: Saint-Étienne 2 - 0 Angers

Plenty of goals in this one, but just the two bookings. Arnaud Nordin of Saint-Étienne and Jeff Reine-Adelaide of Angers the men to have their names taken by referee Thomas Leonard.

A dramatic game at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard with the momentum swinging back and forward throughout. It was the away side who struck first after 24 minutes. A corner being swung over from the right-hand side and not being dealt with by the home defence and keeper at all. Mateo Pavlovic eventually stabbing home from almost on the goal line.

Saint-Étienne were back on level terms just two minutes later. A corner from the right being nodded towards goal by Loic Perrin and Lois Diony heading home from close range on the right.

Saint-Étienne took the lead for the first time on the stroke of half-time. Kolo sending over a cross towards the far post from the left-hand side. Mathieu Debuchy arriving to plant a header back across goal into the bottom left.

The home side still didn't make it into the break with a lead though. A throw in from the right-hand side being thumped against the crossbar before falling to Flavian Tait on the edge of the box to finish into the bottom left. 2-2 at half-time.

The fifth goal of the game came in the 71st minute and it was Angers who claimed it. Good ball in behind the defence from Pavlovic to find Stphane Bahoken outpacing his marker to finish low under the keeper from the left corner of the six yard box.

The lead lasted only two minutes again. Remy Cabella sending in a cross from the right by-line and Vincent Manceau unable to get out of the way around two yards out to plant a header into his own net.

Then in the 89th minute the home side grabbed the winner. Nice play down the right-hand side again ending with Cabella teeing up Romain Hamouma in the right corner of the eighteen yard box. Smart finish from Hamouma into the top right.

Saint-Étienne move up to fifth spot with the three points gained here. Angers slip to 15th.
