RB Leipzig seem to be clicking into gear pretty nicely now, and will bid to keep their push for the top four going this weekend as they welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the Red Bull Arena.

Leverkusen ran away with this game last season when upsetting RB Leipzig 4-1. The reverse fixture ended in a 2-2 draw.

Emil Forsberg and Marcelo Saracchi are out for the home side. Joel Pohjanpalo looks like being the only absentee for Leverkusen.

If there was an award for inconsistency in the Bundesliga this season, it may well go to Bayer Leverkusen. We just need to take a look at their two most recent league results to see that this is very much a Jekyll and Hyde side. 6-2 winners away at Werder Bremen two starts ago, they were promptly stuffed 4-1 at home by Hoffenheim in their next Bundesliga fixture. How this one goes may largely depend on which version of Leverkusen turns up.

The sides arrive at this game on the back of contrasting results in the Europa League in midweek. Leverkusen beating Zurich at home and Leipzig going down away to Celtic.

Bayer must be one of the toughest teams to predict in Bundesliga and we wouldn't be at all surprised to see them win this. Overall though Leipzig have been excellent at home this season - unbeaten in five - and a home win in what should be an exciting game looks to be the sensible choice.

Prediction: RB Leipzig 3 - 2 Bayer Leverkusen

Just the one booking at the RB Arena. Kevin Volland of Bayer Leverkusen being the man to have his name taken by referee Martin Petersen.

You never know quite what to expect with Bayer, but it's safe to say that this wasn't one of their better performances. That's not to take anything away from Leipzig though, who put in a thoroughly professional display to claim all three points in good style.

The opening goal came in the 27th minute. Diego Demme playing in Yussuf Poulsen in the area, who supplied a delicate finish to deftly lift the ball on the volley over the outrushing keeper. 1-0 at the interval.

The home side doubled their advantage in the 68th minute. Marcel Sabitzer slipping in Lukas Klostermann in the right side of the area. Klostermann doing the rest, firing back across the keeper and into the bottom left from around 12 yards.

Bayer then had their best spell of the game and created a handful of decent chances. A goal at this stage would have given them a fighting chance of a comeback, but it wasn't to be.

The scoring finished as it had begun, with a goal from Poulsen. The third of the game coming in the 85th minute. Klostermann blocking an attempted clearance from the right hand side and the ball deflecting straight into the path of Poulsen around seven yards from goal. No mistake from the in-form forward to find the bottom right corner.

RB Leipzig keep the momentum of their solid recent run going and now move up to third spot in the standings. Leverkusen's hit and miss season continues - certainly more miss than hit here - and they slip to 13th.
