One of the biggest games in Ligue 1 this weekend comes at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy as fourth placed Lille play host to Lyon. With just one point between the sides this looks like being a closely fought encounter.

It was Lille who just held the edge in this fixture last season, winning 2-1 in Lyon and sharing the points with a 2-2 draw in this game.

Adam Soumaoro misses out for the home side. Lyon will be without the injured Amine Gouiri in addition to the suspended Rafael.

Lille are on a most impressive run at home in Ligue 1 having won eight and drawn two of their past ten at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. They have scored two or more goals in eight of those fixtures.

Lyon lost their opening away fixture at Reims and were annihilated at PSG, but have been otherwise solid, picking up wins at Dijon, Angers and Guingamp. They are on a decent run at present being unbeaten in their past eight in all competitions, home or away. They impressed when holding Manchester City to a draw in the Champions League in midweek.

Lille will be looking to bounce back from a defeat at Nice last weekend, but do have the advantage of being the fresher side having not had a game in midweek.

We do rate Lyon the better of these two sides overall, but home advantage, combined with being the fresher side may be enough to ensure that Lille come away with a point from this one.

Thiago Mendes and Jonathan Bamba were booked for the home side in this one with referee Benoit Bastien also taking the name of Memphis Depay of Lyon.

A game of two halves at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Lille building up an early advantage but just being unable to hang on. Probably a fair result overall, for all that Lyon dominated possession, Lille made the most of the ball they did have and just about matched Lyon in terms of efforts on goal.

Lille struck first in the seventeenth minute. Nice passing interplay down the right-hand side ending with Zeki Celik playing the ball in towards the edge of the eighteen-yard box. Loic Remy arriving to fire a volley into the ground and up into the top right corner.

One became two in the 28th minute. Remy breaking forward from inside his own half and towards the edge of the Lyon area before slipping in Nicolas Pepe on the right-hand side. Pepe still had a bit to do but did well to cut onto his left and place the ball into the bottom left. 2-0 at the break.

Lyon were handed a golden opportunity to get back this when the referee pointed to the spot after Bertrand Traore was brought down in the area. Memphis Depay stepping up but blazing his effort high over the crossbar.

Lyon did get one back though in the 63rd minute. Traore in to Depay, Depay back heel back into the path of Traore, and Traore in to the bottom left from the right-hand side around thirteen yards out. Nice goal.

Lyon completed their comeback four minutes from time. Lovely lay-off from Traore as the ball came in from the right, teeing the ball up nicely for Moussa Dembele to slot home from around eight yards. 2-2 final score.

With Montpellier winning this weekend, Lyon now drop down to third. Lille remain in fourth position.
