One of the most eye-catching fixtures on Match Day 15 in Serie A comes at the Stadio Olimpico as fifth placed Lazio play host to tenth placed Sampdoria.

Lazio did the double over Fiorentina last season, winning this game 4-0 and coming out on top 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Both sides have relatively fit squads from which to select here. Adam Marusic misses out for Lazio, with Edgar Barreto being the sole Sampdoria player on the side-lines.

Lazio's top four challenge has stalled just a little of late, with three consecutive 1-1 draws seeing them drop out of the Champion's League positions. They haven't been ultra-reliable at home so far this season, wining four of seven. The two defeats coming at the hands of Napoli and Inter Milan.

Sampdoria haven't been in the greatest form themselves this season, with consistency continuing to prove an issue. They did at least put an end to a five-game losing streak when seeing off Bologna 4-1 at home last time out though. Sampa have won two of seven on the road to date, at Frosinone and Atalanta.

Sampdoria are an unpredictable team, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Whilst they seem to be able to keep things relatively tight against the lesser lights of the division, they have been struggling against the better sides, shipping four away at Roma and three at Milan. We see Lazio's attacking prowess paving the way to three points here.

An eventful game at the Stadio Olimpico with plenty to keep referee Davide Massa busy. Felipe Caceido, Ciro Immobile and Wallace were all booked for Lazio. Emil Audero, Karol Linetty, Joachim Anderson and Rccardo Saponara all saw yellow for Sampdoria who also had Bartosz Bereszynski dismissed for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.

Lazio just about battered Sampdoria from pillar to post in this one, racking up an excellent 22 efforts on goal. They were never able to convert that dominance into a healthy lead though, and even after taking the lead in the 6th minute of stoppage time, they were still unable to hang on.

It was the away side who took the lad in the 21st minute. Nice work down the left hand side culminating with Nicola Murru playing in a low ball towards the far post. Fabio Quagliarella on hand and unmarked to slot into the bottom left from around seven yards. Somewhat against the run of lay Sampdoria headed into the break in front.

Sampdoria were holding firm in the second half, but their resistance was finally broken in the 79th minute. A corner being flicked on at the near post by Marco Parolo and Francesco Acerbi just beating the keeper to the ball to prod home from close range.

Moving into stoppage time it looked as though we were headed for a 1-1 draw, and then all hell broke loose. Firstly, in the 92nd minute Bereszynski was dismissed for what looked to be a rugby tackle on Joaquin Correa. From the resultant free kick the referee spotted a handball in the area from Joachim Anderson. This looked a little harsh but Ciro Immobile stepped up to convert into the bottom left in the 96th minute. Three points to Lazio surely…….

Not quite. Riccardo Saponara getting on the end of a long put forward in the 99th minute to stick out a leg and lob Thomas Strakosha. 2-2 final score.

No change for either side, with Lazio staying fifth and Sampdoria tenth.
