Barcelona vs Tottenham Betting Preview

Tottenham's task to make the last 16 is incredibly straightforward. The London outfit don't need to worry about winning margins or away goals. All they just need is a win and they will be through to the next round. However, that will be easier said than done, as their will be facing the mighty Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The Catalans have already secured top spot and are likely to field a second string team here. In the other group game, Inter Milan are level on points with Spurs and will be hoping to leapfrog them on the final day with a win against PSV. Can Spurs do the impossible in Spain?

Spurs are in trouble largely due to their form on the road. Despite picking up 6 points from a possible 9 at Wembley, their last 2 away games have only yielded a single point. They drew 2-2 against PSV in Holland and disappointingly lost to Inter Milan in their opening group game. What's even more disappointing is the fact that in both games, it was late goals from the opposition that cost them points.

Inter will now host last placed PSV at the San Siro and the Italians are expected to pick up 3 points at home. If Spurs fail to match that, then it's the Europa League for them in 2019.

Barcelona Team News
  • Samuel Umtiti and Rafinha are both set to miss the majority of the season for the Catalans and won't be available for this one.
  • Manager Ernesto Valverde is set to ring the changes for this match and give his fringe players some playing time.

Probable Line Up: Cillessen (GK), Alba, Vermaelen, Lenglet, Semedo, Arthur, Busquets, Rakitic, Coutinho, Suarez, Dembele

Tottenham Team News
  • Erik Lamela, Juan Foyth and Kieran Trippier are all doubts for the trip to Spain.
  • Moussa Dembele and Davinson Sanchez are both ruled out through injury.

Probable Line Up: Lloris (GK), Alderweireld, Dier, Vertonghen, Walker-Peters, Eriksen, Winks, Rose, Alli, Moura, Kane

Key Stats
  • Barcelona have lost just 1 of their last 12 Champions League meetings with English clubs (W9 D2 L1).
  • Barcelona have topped their Champions League group for the 12th consecutive season.
  • Spurs front man Harry Kane has scored 7 goals in as many Champions League away games.
  • Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been involved in 28 goals (22 goals, 6 assists) in 29 Champions League appearances against English clubs.

Head to Head
  • The previous game between these 2 sides was the first leg of this tie in which Barcelona triumphed 4-2 at Wembley. That was the only competitive fixture between them.

Barcelona vs Tottenham Betting Tips
  • Will Messi play? That will be the question on everybody's mind here. We believe that answer is no. With top spot already secured, there is no reason for Ernesto Valverde to play him here. We believe Tottenham should have the ability to get at least a draw here. We will bet betting on "Tottenham +0.5" on the Asian Handicap.
  • We think that there will be plenty of goals here, given the fact that Spurs need to win here and cannot just sit back and defend. "Over 3 Goals" will also be our bet here.

We think that a full strength Spurs side should be able to beat a Barcelona side who will not be too interested in this game. Therefore, we are predicting a 3-1 win for Tottenham here.
