Real Madrid vs CSKA Moscow Betting Preview

With their Champions League hopes over, CSKA head to Spain to face Real Madrid in the final group stage match. The visitors are hoping to claim a result which will push them into third, and secure a place in the Europa League knockout rounds. However, getting a win at the Bernabeu is going to be a tall order, especially given how the hosts have improved in recent weeks.

The hosts claimed a narrow win at Huesca at the weekend, to make it 4 straight wins. They are currently 4th in La Liga now and just 5 points off league leaders Barcelona. Despite one of the worst starts to a season that has seen Julen Lopetegui sacked and replaced with club legend Santiago Solari, Real Madrid are still challenging for silverware on multiple fronts. Victory here will make it 5 wins in their 6 group games and ensure they finish top of Group G.

Real's only defeat in the group was that 1-0 defeat by CSKA Moscow. Incredibly, the visitors have managed to defeat the European champions, but still find themselves beneath Viktoria Plzen. After conceding 4 goals and dropping 5 points to the Czech side, CSKA have dropped out of the running for the last 16. They were beaten home and away by Roma, leaving them bottom of Group G. That's put the pressure on for the final game of the group, as they're set to miss out on a Europa League spot.

Of course, Real aren't going to ease up here. We expect the hosts to push for revenge for their defeat in Moscow. That huge loss was part of a difficult period at the start of this season, something the European champions are coming back from. That being said, Solari is set to give some of his fringe players a chance to impress here.

Real Madrid Team News
  • Nacho is ruled out and will not see any action.
  • Casemiro is doubtful and is unlikely to be risked.

Probable Line Up: Navas (GK), Reguilon, Ramos, Varane, Odriozola, Isco, Llorente, Ceballos, Valverde, Mariano, Vazquez

CSKA Moscow Team News
  • Defender Viktor Vasin is ruled out for this trip to the Spanish capital.
  • Alan Dzagoev is likely to miss out once again, having spent over a month on the sidelines.

Probable Line Up: Akinfeev (GK), Nababkin, Chernov, Becao, Oblyakov, Bijol, Akhmetov, Fernandes, Vlasic, Sigurdsson, Chalov

Key Stats
  • Real Madrid's 1-0 loss to CSKA Moscow on Matchday 2 was the only time they've failed to score in their last 33 UEFA Champions League matches.
  • Real Madrid have won 75 points from a possible 81 available in their last 27 UEFA Champions League group stage matches at the Santiago BernabĂ©u Stadium (W24 D3 L0).
  • CSKA Moscow haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last 19 Champions League matches away from home and have kept just 1 in their last 30 matches on the road in the competition.

Head to Head
  • Real have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1 of the last 3 encounters with CSKA. The latest encounter between them was the 1-0 victory for CSKA on Matchday 2.

Real Madrid vs CSKA Betting Tips
  • Despite being likely to field a squad of fringe players, Real are still heavily favoured by the bookies to win this match by at least 2 goals. We think CSKA will be more motivated than the hosts who have nothing to play for. "CSKA +2.5" on the Asian Handicap will be our bet here.
  • Despite Real being expected to field their fringe players, it has to be said that it still looks like a pretty strong first XI. We don't think CSKA will be able to score against them given the fact that the hosts are expected to dominate possession.  The price for "Real Madrid Clean Sheet" is pretty attractive and we will take it.
  • We expect Los Blancos to cruise here without much resistance. 2-0 will be our prediction.
