We have a big game at the San Mamés on Match Day 19 in La Liga as relegation threatened Athletic Bilbao play host to third placed Sevilla.

Bibao did manage to win this game last season when coming out on top 1-0. Sevilla won the reverse game 2-0 and also won 3-1 here in the week in the Copa del Rey.

Mikel Rico and Iñingo Lekue are out injured for the home side. Sevilla must do without the injured Maxime Gonalons and the suspended duo of Franco Vázquez and Daniel Carriço.

Athletic Bilbao find themselves only a point above the relegation zone, but have actually only lost five of their eighteen fixtures to date. They owe their position to having drawn too many games for their fans liking, with ten of their eighteen fixtures ending up all square. They have won just twice at home this season, against Leganés and Girona.

Sevilla have lost just one of their past 14 in La Liga, but have also been drawing a lot of late, with four of their past five games finishing up with a 1-1 score line. They have lost only twice on the road this season at Real Betis and Barcelona.

Sevilla are undoubtedly the better side on paper, but Bilbao are a pretty tough side to beat. Both sides have been draw specialists recently and we see this one ending up all square.

Dani Garcia, Iker Muniain, Iago Herrerin and Inigo Martinez were all booked for the home side, with referee Pablo Gonzales Fuertes also taking the names of Roque Mesa, Sergio Escudero and Joris Gnagnon of Sevilla.

Athletic Bilbao may not be as good a side as Sevilla on paper, but they certainly matched them here, showing good passion and fight in front of their own fans to pick up a much needed three points.

The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute and a fine goal it was too. Inigo Cordoba playing in Inaki Williams in the left channel and Williams cutting onto his right just inside the area before thundering a strike into the top right corner. Sevilla were having their moments in an evenly contested first half, but were never able to get a grip on the game. 1-0 at half-time.

It was Williams who made sure of the points for the home side with another excellent goal in the 84th minute.  Flicking the ball one side of a defender just inside his own half and then running round the other, he turned on the afterburners to blitz into the area, round the keeper, and slot home from the right hand side of the area.

A very important win for Athletic Bilbao. They certainly aren't out of the woods yet , but do now at least have a three point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone. Any hopes that Sevilla had of making a serious title challenge are now fading fast. They remain inside the top four in third spot but are now ten points adrift of league leaders Barcelona.
