Villarreal continue to be in big trouble as we move towards the final third of the season. Second bottom and three points off safety headed into Match Day 24, they are going to need to start stringing some results together soon or the Yellow Submarines will find themselves sinking out of La Liga. Next up its this home clash with fourth placed Sevilla who are looking to keep their noses in front in the battle for the Champion's League positions.

There was nothing to split the sides earlier in the season as they played out a goalless draw in Sevilla. This game ended in a 3-2 win for Sevilla last season.

Bruno Soriano looks like being the only absentee for the home side. Sevilla will be without the injured Nolito and suspended Éver Banega.

Villarreal could be forgiven for having almost completely forgotten what it feels like to win a game in La Liga having picked up maximum points only once in their past 17 outings. They have won just once at home all season, but have at least scored in each of their past eight here, picking up five draws in addition to that sole win over this period.

Sevilla aren't going particularly well at present with just the one win in their past seven. They are without a win in their past eight away from home and are only hanging on to their current fourth placed by the skin on their teeth. They have failed to score in each of their last three on the road.

It's hard to trust Villarreal to win at present, but we do fancy they may at least get something out of this game.

Karl Toko Ekambi, Alvaro Gonzalez, Mario Gaspar and Ramiro Funes Mori were all booked for the home side, with referee Jose Luis Gonzalez Gonzalez also taking the name of Roque Mesa of Sevilla.

This certainly wasn't a 3-0 result on the stats, with Sevilla racking up an impressive 21 total shots. They simply weren't anywhere near clinical enough on the day though as a determined Villarreal outfit ran away with it in the end.

The opening goal came after 20 minutes. Santi Cazorla playing in a corner kick from the right-hand side and Alvaro Gonzalez arriving on the edge of the six-yard box to thump a diving header into the back of the net.

The home side doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. Carlos Bacca found in the left of the area and playing a brilliant backheeled ball across goal, taking the keeper and defence out of the game. Karl Toko Ekambi the man on hand to slot into the empty net. 2-0 at the break.

Sevilla did try and get back into this but found the Villarreal defence to be in bend but don't break mode.

The home side then put the seal on the game in the 87th minute. Good work down the left-hand side to send Alfonso Pedraza galloping into the left of the area. Pedraza finishing hard and low into the bottom right. 3-0 it finished.

Big win for Villarreal, not enough to lift them out of the bottom three though. They remain third bottom but now only a single point adrift of safety. Very disappointing result for Sevilla. They do keep their place in the top four, but are only a point clear of Getafe and Deportivo Alaves.
