The dream of an invincible season may now be over for PSG, but they haven't shown too many ill-effects with wins over Bordeaux and success at Old Trafford in the Champion's League following that defeat to Lyon. Next up for the runaway league leaders is this trip to fifth placed Saint-Étienne in what looks to be just about the pick of the Match Day 24 fixtures.

Saint-Etienne won't have too many happy memories of their trip to the Parc des Princes earlier in the season, with PSG having run out 4-0 winners on the day. They did stifle the champions when coming away with a 1-1 draw in this game last season though.

Saint-Étienne hold a definite edge on the injury front, with no confirmed absentees at present. PSG will be without the devastating duo of Neymar and Edinson Cavani in addition to Adrien Rabiot and Lass Diarra.

The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard has been quite the fortress for Saint-Étienne this season, with just the one defeat and nine wins in their opening 12 here. They have managed two or more goals in nine of those twelve wins.

PSG have lost only one of their last eighteen in Ligue 1, but that defeat did come in their most recent away outing. If they are to lose another, then this would be the type of game where it might happen, particularly with those injuries to key men. Overall though Saint-Étienne don't have quite the quality of Lyon, but they may scrape a point.

PSG certainly racked up the yellow cards in this one. Juan Bernat, Dani Alves, Alphonse Areola, Layvin Kurzawa and Kylian Mbappé all having their names taken by referee Benoit Bastien. Wahbi Khazri of Saint-Étienne was also booked.

Saint-Étienne certainly can't be faulted for effort or application here as they gave PSG a better game than most sides have managed so far this season. They couldn't quite find a way onto the scoresheet though, and it's so tough to keep PSG's many weapons quiet over the course of ninety minutes.

It was Mbappé who had the best of the early PSG chances when found in the right of the area. He opted for power and the near post but found keeper Stephane Ruffier to be equal to the task. 0-0 at half-time.

PSG continued to push at the start of the second half; Angel Di Maria seeing one effort saved and drifting another just beyond the post.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 73rd minute. The home side were struggling to clear the lines and looked in trouble as soon as a short clearance from Ruffier was nodded back towards the Saint-Étienne area. Dani Alves dinking a ball over the top which was finished in sensational style by Mbappé. Letting the ball drop over his shoulder he smashed a 12-yard volley from the right-hand side into the top left corner. 0-1 final score.

PSG stay top and twelve points clear of Lille with a game in hand as their procession towards the Ligue 1 title continues. No change for Saint-Étienne either who stay fifth - only being kept out if the top four by Marseille by virtue of having an inferior goal difference.
