Back to back defeats against Real's Betis and Madrid look to have all but ended Atlético's title dreams. They will now likely have to be just about perfect in the run in to hold any chance. Having bounced back with wins over Vallecano and Villareal, they will be looking to keep the momentum going on Match Day 26.

It's a tough one for Atlético though as they travel to the Anoeta to take on Real Sociedad. Currently eighth in the table, a win for the home side would take them up into the Europa League qualifying positions. Plenty to play for for both sides.

Sociedad stunned Atlético in this game last season when running out 3-0 winners. Atlético won the reverse of this fixture this season when coming out on top 2-0 at the Wanda Metroplitano.

Kévin Rodrigues, Asier Illarramendi, Andoni Gorosabel and Martín Merquelanz are all out for the home side. Lucas Hernández is the only confirmed absentee for Atlético at this stage.

Sociedad are going well at present and arrive here unbeaten in eight in La Liga, keeping a clean sheet in four of their past five. They certainly took a while to come to the boil at home with only one win in their first eight, but have now won three of their past four here.

Atlético have lost only two of twelve on the road, conceding one or fewer goals in ten of those twelve games.

Half of Atlético's away games have ended up in a draw, and Sociedad are playing well enough at present to pick up a point here.

Just the one booking for the home side with referee Jose Luis Gonzalez Gonzalez taking the name of Joseba Zaldua. Rodri and Diego Godin saw yellow for Atlético for whom Koke was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 62nd minute.

We should be used to seeing this type of display from Atlético by now. Behind in most of the key stats, their - bend but don't break - back line came up trumps once again - doing particularly well considering they were down to ten men for the last third of the game. In the end two goals in the space of three first half minutes always looked like being too much for Sociedad to overcome and in the end so it proved.

Atlético were much the more dangerous side in the early stages, with a succession of chances coming Alvaro Morata's way. Firstly, when just failing to get enough on the ball to send it in following a defensive mix up, and then when getting on the end of a cross from the right only to see his close range effort blocked.

The chances kept falling the forwards way though and it was he who opened the scoring in the 30th minute. A corner from the left-hand side being flicked on at the near post by Diego Godin and Morata finishing with a diving header into the right-hand side from six yards.

Three minutes later Morata had another. This time meeting a free kick from the right to power a header down and in from around six yards. 0-2 at the break.

The sending off understandably changed the complexion of the game, but in truth Atlético saw this one out with relative ease. 0-2 final score.

Atlético continue to just about hang on to Barcelona's coattails. They stay second but are still seven points adrift of the leaders. Sociedad drop down from eighth to ninth but are still only two points off Europa League qualifying.
