Two of the most out of form sides in Europe clash at the HDI-Arena this weekend as rock bottom Hannover play host to fourth bottom Schalke.

Hannover have been rooted to the foot of the table for some time now and - nine points adrift of safety, with twelve games to play - it looks a matter of time before their demotion is confirmed. All is not quite lost yet though, and they could cut that gap to six points with a win in this one.

Having looked to have clawed themselves away from danger, the wheels seem to have come off again for Schalke and they find themselves firmly back in the mire, and now only three points clear of the drop zone.

Schalke picked up the points with a 3-1 win in the reverse of this fixture. It was Hannover who came out on top in this game last season though with a narrow 1-0 success.

Injuries have a lot to do with Hannover's predicament, and the situation doesn't seem to be getting much better. Ihlas Bebou, Niclas Füllkrug, Bobby Wood, Matthias Ostrzolek, Kevin Akpoguma, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee, Timo Hübers and Edgar Prib all miss out here. Daniel Caligiuri, Weston McKennie and Alessandro Schöpf are out for Schalke.

Hannover have won only three of thirteen at home this season, failing to score in seven of those games. They have conceded three times in three of their last four.

Having picked up in mid-season, Schalke are now without a win in their past eight in the Bundesliga. They have won only two of thirteen on the road overall.

Those injuries are surely too much to overcome for Hannover. Schalke have scored two or more in three of their last five on the road, and if able to do so again here it ought to be enough.

Prediction: Hannover 96 1 - 2 Schalke 04
