Two sides with varying European aspirations clash at the Stade Auguste Delaune on Match Day 31 in Ligue 1 as Reims play host to Lille.

Currently sixth in the standings, the Champion's League looks beyond Reims now, but they are only three points off fourth and a place in the Europa League which would represent a fine achievement for the season.

Lille meanwhile are all but guaranteed Champion's League football but will be keen to hang on to second spot - and so avoid the qualifying round. Currently four points clear of third placed Lyon with eight games to play, they have a little bit of room to manoeuvre, but not too much.

Reims did well in the reverse of this fixture when picking up a 1-1 draw at Lille. The most recent clash between the sides here came back in the 2016/17 season and saw Lille triumph 2-0.

Just the one injury absentee for each side in this one. Ghislain Konan missing out for the home side and Jérémy Pied on the side-lines for Lille.

Reims have lost just one of their past 14 games in Ligue 1, but it was their most recent game, and it was a pretty heavy defeat too, going down 4-0 at Strasbourg. They have lost only two of 15 at home this season, only conceding more than one goal on two occasions.

Lille are on an excellent run away from home, with seven wins and a draw from their past eight games. They have scored two or more in five of their last seven on the road.
Reims rarely concede more than one at home and will likely be set up to frustrate. We see a low scoring draw here.

Prediction: Reims 1 - 1 Lille

Half time: 0 - 0
Full time: 1 - 1
Shots:  10 - 11
Shots on target: 3 - 4
Corner Kicks: 6 - 4
Possession: 42% - 58%

Two bookings for each side at the Stade Auguste Delaune. Referee Jerome Brisard taking the names of Alaixys Romao and Rahman Baba of the home side and Adama Soumaoro and Thiago Maia of Lille.

Lille edged the possession as might have been expected but other than that there was very little to split these two on the day. Reims putting in a solid defensive display, whilst offering enough of a threat themselves to keep Lille honest and deservedly coming away with a point against the League's second placed side.

Reims did keep Lille very well contained in the opening period, but the visitors were causing problems on the break at times. The best of Lilles chances falling to Loic Remy just inside the area, but he was only able to hit the keeper. 0-0 at the break.

It was Lille who broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half through a fairly simple goal. Thiago Mendes playing in a corner from the right hand side and no-one getting anywhere near Jose Fonte around twelve yards out and in a central area. The centre half able to send a well-directed header into the top right.

Reims just about took control of the game having fallen behind and grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 78th minute. Tristan Dingome playing in an excellent through ball to find Remi Oudin in the right of the area. Smart finish from Oudin into the bottom left from around eight yards. 1-1 final score.

With Lyon surprisingly losing at home to Dijon this weekend, Lille stay second and stretch their lead over the third placed side to five points. Automatic qualification for the Champion's League group stages still remains very much in their own hands. Reims stay sixth and are still three points off fourth position and Europa League qualification.
