The first leg of this all-Spanish affair in the quarter finals of this seasons Europa League largely went as current form suggested it would, with Valencia all but completing the job with a 3-1 win in Villarreal. It will take an epic turnaround fro, the Yellow Submarine to progress now, but stranger things have happened.

Villarreal won't draw too much heart from their La Liga game here in January which saw Valencia run out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Both sides warmed up for this game with a win at the weekend. Valencia bating Levate 3-1 here and Villarreal triumphing 1-0 in Girona to slightly ease their relegation concerns.

Cristiano Piccini looks like being the only injury absentee for the home side. Villarreal will be without the injured trio of Miguelón, Daniele Bonera and Bruno Soriano, in addition to the suspended Álvaro González.

The task facing Villarreal is a formidable one here as Valencia are now unbeaten in their last 19 fixtures in all competitions at the Mestalla. They have kept eight clean sheets in their last twelve games here, and haven't conceded more than one goal in any of their previous 23 home fixtures.

Villarreal have improved on the road of late though, with four wins in their last seven, hitting two or more goals in three of their last five.

That home record is simply too much to ignore here and Villarreal will most likely be free to concentrate on their fight against relegation after this one.

Prediction: Valencia 2 - 1 Villarreal
