There are always a few dead rubbers at this stage of the season, and this weekends game at the Merkur Spiel-Arena doesn't have a whole lot riding on it. On the plus side both teams should be able to play with a degree of freedom, which may just make for an entertaining encounter.

Fortuna Düsseldorf picked up the points in the reverse of this fixture with a 2-0 win in their home game. The last meeting between the sides here came back in 2016 in the Bundesliga 2. Fortuna Düsseldorf again winning that one. 2-1 the score-line on that occasion.

Freiburg's injury list is a lengthy one. Florian Kath, Manuel Gulde, Tim Kleindienst, Chima Okoroji, Roland Sallai, Philipp Leinhart, Lukas Kübler and Mark Flekken all miss out. On top of all that Amir Abrashi is suspended. Marcel Sobottka, Diego Contento, Jean Zimmer and Ayman Barkok are out for the away side.

Freiburg were thumped 4-0 by Borussia Dortmund in their most recent game here, but had previously been on a decent run with just the one defeat in eight in front of their own fans. Nine of their fifteen games at home have seen three or more goals.

Fortuna Düsseldorf have been going ok away from home with four wins in their past eight on the road. Ten of their fifteen away games have seen three or more goals.

There should be a few goals around this one. Those injuries may be too much for the home side to overcome though and Fortuna Düsseldorf may just edge it.

Prediction: Freiburg 2 - 3 Fortuna Düsseldorf
