Two sides who suffered defeat on the opening weekend do battle at the PreZero Arena on Match Day 2 in the Bundesliga, as Hoffenheim play host to Werder Bremen.

Each of the past five meetings between these sides has featured under 2.50 goals. Werder picked up the points in a 1-0 win here last season, with the game in Bremen ending in a 1-1 draw.

Alfred Schreuder' s first league game in charge at Hoffenheim ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Eintracht Frankfurt. He will be hoping for better in his first game in front of his own fans.

Bremen meanwhile were desperately disappointing in going down 3-1 at home to Fortuna Dusseldorf, and will be keen to get that game out of their system.

Andre Kramaric misses out for Hoffenheim, leaving the hosts pretty light up front. Bremen are more heavily hit when it comes to injuries; Milot Rashica, Philipp Bargfrede. Milos Veljkovic, Fin Bartels, Ludwig Augustinsson and Sebastian Langkamp are all out for this one.

Hoffenheim weren't awful at home last term, but will be looking to improve upon their record of seven wins from seventeen games.

Bremen will have happy memories of their last visit here which resulted in a 1-0 success in their final away game of last season. That was one of only six wins on the road, but they did only lose five times.

For all that both sides lost last weekend, it was Bremen who fared much the better on the stats in their game. Hoffenheim look a little toothless at present and may just come unstuck here.

Goals and cards aplenty at the PreZero Arena in what was a cracking encounter. Sebastian Rudy and Leonardo Bittencourt were booked for the home side, with referee Sascha Stegemann taking the names of Davy Klaassen, Niklas Moisander and Martin Hamik of Werder Bremen, who also had Johannes Eggestein dismissed for a second yellow in the 77th minute.

Most of the fireworks were to come in the second half in this one, but Werder did take the lead three minutes before the break. Nuri Sahin swinging in a corner from the left and Niclas Fullkrug rising highest to power a header into the top left from seven yards. 0-1 at the interval.

Hoffenheim's equaliser was almost a carbon copy of Bremen's opener. Dennis Geiger with the corner from the left this time. Ermin Bicakcic a little more towards the back post than Fullkrug had been but finishing in similar style with a header into the top left. 1-1 after 54 minutes.

Five minutes later the hosts were in front for the first time. It looked no more than a hopeful ball forward from a central area, but taking a touch on the way through it fell perfectly for Ihlas Bebou to sweep home high into the right hand side from eight yards or so.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Werder - to their credit - still managed to claw themselves level in the 81st minute. Hoffenheim careless with the ball in their own half and Klassen finding Yuya Osako on the edge of the area. Osako switching the ball to his right and finishing nicely into the bottom right.

The visitors couldn't hang on for the point though as Hoffenheim grabbed all three in the 87th minute. A corner from the right this time, finding Pavel Kaderabek unmarked around the penalty spot. Really well directed header from Kaderabek into the left-hand side. 3-2 it finished.
