Two sides who are without a win in the opening two weekends of the Bundesliga season lock horns at the WESERSTADION this weekend as Werder Bremen play host to Augsburg.

Werder Bremen did the double over Augsburg in the Bundesliga last season, winning 3-2 away from home and running away with it in a 4-0 success in this game.

The list of absentees is pretty atrocious for each of these sides considering how early it is in the season. Bremen will be without Ömer Toprak, Milot Rashica, Fin Bartels, Kudwig Augustinsson, Sebastian Langkamp, Milos Veljkovic and Philipp Bargfrede through injury, whilst Johannes Eggestein is suspended. For Augsburg the list of injury absentees reads; Raphael Framberger, Noah Bazee, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Iago, Sergio Córdova and Felix Götze.

Bremen have begun the season in fairly shambolic fashion at the back, shipping three goals against both Hoffenheim and Fortuna Düsseldorf, and losing both games. They were relatively solid here last season though in only losing three of 17.

Augsburg's defence must also be a big concern to their fans. Ending last season with an 8-1 defeat in the road to Wolfsburg, they began the current campaign with a 5-1 thrashing at Borussia Dortmund. A home draw with new boys Union Berlin last time out was a bit better, but not really too much cause for optimism.

The sheer number of absent players makes this a little tougher than usual to call. It's difficult to trust ether side to keep a clean sheet, but home advantage may just see Bremen over the line.

Jiri Pavlenka was the only player of the home side to have his name taken by referee Soren Storks. Ruben Vargas and Florian Niederlechner were booked for Augsburg, whilst Stephan Lichsteiner was dismissed for a second yellow card in the 34th minute.

Flying starter for Werder, with the hosts taking the lead in just the sixth minute. Under a bit of pressure on the edge of their own area, they broke up play and hit swiftly on the counter. Niclas Fulkrug chipping a straight ball over the middle from inside his own half to send Yuya Osako scampering clear and through on goal. Confident finish from Osako into the bottom right from the edge of the area.

The lead lasted only six minutes. Augsburg attacking down the left, from where a cross was initially overhit. Stephan Lichsteiner gathered it on the right flank though and played an excellent ball back into the area for Ruben Vargas to head into the top left corner from around ten yards. Fine finish.

The hosts were then back in front once again in the 21st minute. Nuri Sahin dinking another ball over the top from around halfway on the right. Smart finish from Josh Sargent - plucking the ball out of the air with his first touch, controlling on his chest with his second, before deftly dinking over the head of the advancing keeper and finishing into the empty net. 2-1 at the break.

Despite being down to ten men, Augsburg did draw level in the first minute of the second half. Excellent counterattack. Florian Niederlechner sent into acres of space down the right, racing into the area and taking the keeper out of the equation with a ball across goal into the path of Vargas to slot into the empty net from six yards for his second goal of the game.

Werder did make their extra man tell in the end though, when grabbing the winner in the 67th minute. Marco Friedl in space on the left flank and playing a high cross into the area. Osako watching the dropping ball all the way onto his boot to finish with an emphatic volley high to the left of the keeper from around seven or eight yards out to the right. 3-2 final score.
