What a game we have in store at the Stadio Olimpico on Match Day 22 in Serie A, in what is easily the pick of the latest slate of fixtures. Far from being a one-horse race, this seasons title contest is turning into a three way battle, and two of the sides involved in the fight lock horns here, as third placed Lazio play host to table toppers Inter Milan. With only one point between the sides headed into the game, there's plenty riding on this one.

Inter have held the edge in the recent league meetings between the sides; winning 3-0 in the game here last season, and coming out on top 1-0 in the reverse fixture in the current campaign.

Just the one injury absentee for each side in this one. Senad Lulic is out for the home side, whilst Inter must make do without Roberto Gagliardini.

Both sides bring a formidable record into the game, with Lazio unbeaten in their last 18 in Serie A and Inter unbowed in their last 16.

Lazio's seven match winning streak at home was brought to an end last time out here as they were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by Verona. They have scored two or more in nine of 12 overall here, conceding more than once only twice.

Inter have been excellent on their travels in winning nine of eleven, and drawing the other two. Only conceding more than once in one of those games, they are a mightily tough side to break down, and have impressively scored two or more in nine of eleven on the road.

A titanic tussle in store here. Inter look the more well-rounded side, but home advantage may just even things out. Score draw.

Lucas Leiva, Luiz Felipe, Manuel Lazzari and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic were all booked for the home side in this one, with referee Gianluca Rocci also taking the names of Stefan de Vrij and Diego Godin of Inter Milan.

A very even encounter on the stats. Lazio did just about shade it on the attacking measures though, and whilst neither side could have complained had this ended in a draw, if there was a side who deserved to win it, then it probably was the hosts.

Lazio came close early. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic driving forward in the right channel and unleashing a 25-yard effort at goal - being unlucky to see his strike thump back off the crossbar.

Romelu Lukaku then forced Thomas Strakosha into a decent stop following a swift counter.

It was Inter who took a lead into the break thanks to a goal in the 44th minute. An Antonio Candreva strike from range straight at Strakosha, but the keeper only palming clear up into the air. Ashley Young on hand near the penalty spot to volley down into the ground and up into the top left corner. 0-1 at the interval.

Lazio were back on level terms just five minutes into the second half. Stefan de Vrij bundling Ciro Immobile over in the area and the referee pointing to the spot. Immobile confidently dispatching into the right-hand side.

The winner arrived in the 69th minute. An effort following a corner in from the right initially being cleared off the line, but falling to Milinkovic-Savic around 14-yards and central. Nice control to make space and a composed finish into the bottom left corner from the Serb.

2-1 final score.

Another real statement victory from Lazio this. The Rome club now move up into second spot and only one point behind league leaders Juventus. Inter are now two points further back in third spot.
