The Bundesliga joins the party once again this coming weekend with this season's curtain raiser coming from BORUSSIA-PARK as Gladbach play host to defending champions, Bayern Munich.

Bayern of course ran away with the title last season and will likely be confident of defending their crown. Following a promising start to the campaign Gladbach faded to finish 8th in the end.

It was actually honours even between these sides last season with Gladbach winning 3-2 in this one and Bayern running riot in a 6-0 rout in the reverse fixture.

Not the busiest of summers for Bayern on the transfer front, but they have bolstered their defence with signing of the excellent Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig. Gladbach have brought in exciting attacking midfielder Hannes Wolf and young  left back Luca Netz.

Ramy Bensebaini, Mamadou Doucouré and Kouadio Koné are all expected to miss out for the home side. Bayern will be without Marc Roca, Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernández.

Gladbach did beat Bayern 2-0 in a recent friendly and may take heart from that. The champions were nothing like at full strength that day though and will likely prove a different proposition entirely here. That said, Bayern's pre-seaon overall has gone far from smoothly and whilst we do expect the champions to edge it, this could be close.

10 minutes 1-0 (Alassane Plea): Gladbach had started very brightly in this one, already putting the Bayern goal under significant pressure prior to grabbing this early lead. Bayern coughing up possession in the centre of the park, the ball the played through to Lars Stindl in the right channel. Stindl getting there just before the defence to prod through to Plea, clean through and to the left of centre. No mistake from the frontman to fire home low to the right from around 12 yards.

42 minutes 1-1 (Robert Lewandowski): Bayern predictably ramping up the pressure in their search for an equaliser, with Yann Sommer in fine form to deny both Lewandowski and Josip Stanisic. Bayern's prolific Pole is a tough man to deny though and he grabbed the equaliser soon before the break. Joshua Kimmich swinging over the corner from the right-hand side and Lewandowski onto it to volley home first time low to the right-hand side from around seven yards out to the right.

Analysis: An entertaining encounter this one. Bayern the better side on the day overall, without quite managing to hit the heights of last season. It is still early days under Nagelsmann though and improvement can be expected. Both sides had their chances to win it in the second half, Sommer superbly denying Lewandowski with a save with his foot and Manuel Neuer doing equally well to repel a Lars Stindl effort with a one-handed stop.

League Standings: With this being the first game of the season the two sides sit joint top for now.
