One of the most eye catching fixtures in Match Day 2 in the Bundesliga comes at the BayArena as Bayer Leverkusen play host to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Sixth and eighth respectively last season, will there be much between the sides this time around?

Leverkusen opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Union Berlin. Gladbach also drew, but earnt plenty of credit with that 1-1 result coming at home to Champion's Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen did the double over Gladbach last season, winning 4-3 in this one and 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

Karim Bellarabi, Edmond Tapsoba and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all expected to miss out for the home side. Mamadou Doucouré and Kouadio Koné are side-line for the visitors.

Leverkusen were solid enough at home last term, winning eight and drawing four of their seventeen fixtures, scoring two or more nine times.

Gladbach just about held their own on the road, with six wins and six draws - scoring two or more in an impressive 12 of those games.

Not a whole lot between these two on paper, but given their respective records we could be in for a few goals in this one. On balance though we were slightly more impressed with Gladbach on opening day and we fancy they may be just the stronger of the two sides this term. Away win.

Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 2 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Goals:
3 minutes 1-0 (Yann Sommer (og)): A fairly comical opener. Mitchell Bakker advancing in the left channel and firing a low drive at goal from fully thirty yards. His strike clattering back off the right hand upright, rebounding of the standing Sommer and going back the way it came for the own goal.

8 minutes 2-0 (Patrik Schick): Good determined run from Diaby to the right and a nice pass inside to Schik on the edge of the area. Schick. Schick taking a touch to open up his body and fire home into the left-hand side from the edge of the area and central.

59 minutes 3-0 (Moussa Diaby): Bakker played in down the left and clipping a ball across to find Diaby in the right of the area. Diaby controlling and firing an effort at goal from around 12 yards on the right. His strike taking a huge deflection on its way into the bottom left.

87 minutes 4-0 (Nadiem Amiri): Bakker out on the left and lofting a cross deep into the right. Florian Wirtz first time back across goal and Amiri firing goalward from around 14-yards out and central. Sommer getting two big hands to it but the ball still trickling in to the bottom left.

Analysis: Not Gladbach's day. They actually topped the shots on target and possession stats but had little luck in their own area, whilst this certainly wasn't Yann Sommers finest afternoon.

League Standings: Leverkusen sit in third spot. Gladbach third bottom.
