Champions Bayern Munich were held on the road at Gladbach on the opening day, but were back to winning ways in the German Super Cup in midweek and will be looking to back that success up with a win in their first home game of the campaign as last season's 16th placed finishers FC Koln come to town.

Koln began their season with a 3-1 home success over Hertha Berlin but face a significantly tougher challenge here.

Bayern did the double over Koln last season, winning 5-1 in this one and 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Lucas Hernández, Benjamin Pavard and Marc Roca are all out for the home side. Koln will be without Jannes Horn.

Bayern are now unbeaten in 27 home Bundesliga fixtures, winning 13 of 17 at home last season, scoring two or more in 15 of those games and four or more in a very impressive ten. At the other end of the pitch they conceded more than once on six occasions.

Koln won five of 17 on the road, scoring more than once only four times, and conceding more than once on seven occasions.

Bayern don't seem to have quite hit full stride, but looked a bit more like it against Dortmund in midweek, and with a big advantage at the top end of the pitch they can be expected to do enough here.

50 minutes 1-0 (Robert Lewandowski): Excellent work from Jamal Musiala played in down the left, beating his man to get to the by-line inside the area and cutting the ball back for Lewandowski. Only one likely outcome from there and the prolific Pole duly slotted home low to the left-hand side from six yards out to the left.

59 minutes 2-0 (Serge Gnabry): Thomas Mueller played in down the right flank and whipping a low ball into the area. His cross taking a slight deflection and sitting up into the path of Gnabry who volleyed home into the left-hand side from five yards out to the left.

60 minutes 1-2 (Anthony Modeste):  Jonas Hector played down the left flank and whipping an excellent cross into the area. Modeste meeting it with an equally good header to finish high into the left-hand side from around seven yards out and central.

62 minutes 2-2 (Mark Uth): Kingsley Ehizibue in possession out on the right flank and picking out an excellent delivery into the area. Uth arriving to finish on the stretch into the bottom right from around six yards out to the right.

83 minutes 3-2 (Serge Gnabry): A cross in from the left only partially cleared and Joshua Kimmich nodding into the path of Gnabry headed into the right of the area. Superb finish from Gnabry from there, thundering a 14-yard volley across goal and in high to the left hand side.

Analysis: Plenty of credit to Koln who many would have expected to capitulate once they found themselves two goals down at the Allianz. Having clawed themselves back only to still lose must have been a bitter pill to swallow, but they can take plenty of positives from this. Bayern good going forward but again not convincing at the back.

League Standings: Bayern sit fourth with Koln eighth.
