It's safe to say that Bayern Munich haven't quite hit their brilliant best just yet in their first season under Julian Nagelsmann. They haven't been a million miles off it though - already bagging a trophy when beating Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup, whilst their two league fixtures have yielded a draw on the road at Gladbach and a 3-2 verdict over FC Cologne here. Next up for the defending champions it's this home clash with a Hertha Berlin outfit who ended last season in 14th spot.

Hertha have struggled to get going so far, losing to FC Cologne on the road, and being beaten 2-1 by Wolfsburg at home last week.

Bayern were narrow winners in each of the games between the sides last season - winning 4-3 in this one and 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

Lucas Hernández, Benjamin Pavard and Marc Roca look set to miss out for the hosts. Rune Jarstein is the only confirmed absentee for the visitors at this stage.

Bayern have what must be just about the most formidable home league record in Europe at present and head into this one unbeaten in their last 28 Bundesliga games at the Allianz. They won 15 of 19 at home last term, scoring two or more in all bar two of those games.

Hertha won only three of 17 on the road, in addition to picking up six draws. Having scored more than once in only four of those fixtures, they seem unlikely to keep pace with Bayern where it counts most - in the final third.

6 minutes 1-0 (Thomas Mueller): Bayern spreading the ball nicely from right to left. Alphonso Davies receiving the ball outside the area to the left, advancing and laying the ball nicely into the path of Muller arriving to the right. No mistake from Muller, side-footing home into the bottom left from ten yards out to the right.

35 minutes 2-0 (Robert Lewandowski): Bayern powering through midfield, the ball sprayed to the right and crossed into the centre. Lewandowski getting up six yards out and central and seeing his header come back off the crossbar. The predatory Pole wanted the rebound most though to get up and nod in from a couple of yards.

49 minutes 3-0 (Jamal Musiala): Mueller down the left, slipping inside to Musiala in the area. Musiala getting the ball out from under his feet and firing home into the right-hand side from 12 yards out to the left of centre.

70 minutes 4-0 (Robert Lewandowski): Excellent work from Leroy Sane to the left, exchanging passes to burst into the left of the area, drawing the keeper and slipping inside for Lewandowski to bundle home from around six yards out to the left.

84 minutes 5-0 (Robert Lewandowski): A corner from the left played to the back post. Tanguy Nianzou nodding straight back into the danger zone and Lewandowski powering onto it to head home from a couple of yards out and central to grab his hattrick.

Analysis: Bayern had been slightly below their peak up until now, but began to move through the gears in this one, simply blowing Hertha Berlin away with their ability in the final third.

League Standings: Bayern sit second after this. Hertha Berlin rock bottom and the only side yet to pick up a point.
