Bordeaux are managing to stay out of the relegation zone for now in Ligue 1, but if there is one side giving the sides currently in the bottom three hope then it is surely Jean-Louis Gasset's men.

Sinking like a stone, but still five points clear of the drop zone, Bordeaux's latest attempt to stop the rot comes in this home clash with a seventh placed Rennes outfit who, well adrift of the European spots - only really have pride to play for.

Bordeaux picked up the points courtesy of a 1-0 success in the reverse of this fixture, with the game here last season amongst those to have been cancelled during what was a curtailed season.

Otávio and Laurent Koscielny are out injured for the home side whilst Jean Michael Sari misses out through suspension. Jonas Martin is the only confirmed absentee for Rennes at this stage.

Bordeaux's dreadful run now sees the side having lost eleven of their last 13 Ligue 1 fixtures, including five of their last six at home, failing to score in four of those games and conceding two or more in four.

Rennes in contrast are going great guns at present with five wins and a draw in their last six fixtures. They have been solid overall on the road in losing only four of 17, conceding more than once only four times, and scoring two or more in each of their last three.

Bordeaux would look to have the greater need for the points but have been playing so poorly that its hard to see them getting anything out of this one against an in form Rennes outfit.

11 minutes 1-0 (Sekou Mara): Having a man advantage after just eight minutes, Bordeaux were then a goal to the good just three minutes later. A ball into the box breaking to Ui-Jo Hwang, Hwang chesting the ball back towards the penalty spot and eighteen year old Mara lashing home into the bottom right - the youngsters first Ligue 1 strike on his first start.

Red Card Incident: The form Bordeaux have been in of late, they likely needed a helping hand in order to stop the rot, and they duly got one here with Steven Nzonzi being given his marching orders in just the eighth minute. Watching this back there doesn't seem to have been too much intent in his challenge, and he did have his eyes on the ball. Nevertheless, his boot was raised well above waist height, making contact with man rather than ball and the referee duly reached straight for the red.

Analysis: This one certainly tilted firmly in favour of the home side from very early in the game. They were still never quite able to put it to bed though, for all that they did come close to grabbing a second in the opening period when a Mara header forced an excellent stop from Alfred Gomis.
Credit to Rennes, they did take the game to Bordeaux in the second half, despite being a man down, and came mightily close to an equaliser when a Jeremy Doku effort from range clattered back off the right hand upright.

League Standings: Huge win for Bordeaux who now sit 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone with only three games remaining. Rennes seventh on the back of this.
